9 Tips to Develop Child’s Kinesthetic Intelligence

“”Geez, my son can’t be silent. Always running here and there, climbing tables, screaming. Just sitting watching TV for 5 minutes, my kid feels uncomfortable and looking for other things that can be done ”. Do you often hear complaints like this? Or are we the ones who often complain like that?

Did you know that every child has a unique way of absorbing information? We may feel confused with the little one who is more likely to be active and seems to be less concentrated in school lessons. It is not certain that your little one doesn’t pay attention to the subject matter, us. It could be that your little one is a child whose development refers to kinesthetic intelligence. Kinesthetic intelligence is characterized by the ability to control body movements and the ability to manage objects. Your little one likes to express in facial expressions or style, athletic, dance, strong, and skilled in fine motor, hand and eye coordination, gross motor skills and endurance.

Children with kinesthetic intelligence get bored faster with learning styles that’s just sitting still and listen to the lesson. Children with kinesthetic intelligence like learning styles using objects, doing experiments and doing physical tasks that are done repeatedly.

If your child is among those who have this kinesthetic intelligence, do not force him to sit quietly memorizing. Or sitting quietly writing for hours because it will actually kill his creativity. Conversely, we can develop kinesthetic intelligence at home so that we can maximize the learning process of your little one with the following 9 learning styles:

  1. Role play and engage with your little one. We can play as a seller, buyer, or doctor and patient with your little one. Occasionally invite him to play as teacher and student or parent and child, and don’t forget to ask him how he feels playing these roles.
  2. Exercise balance. By doing dancing activities, we also train the balance of the little one’s movements, train the harmony of movement, strength and flexibility of the muscles.
  3. Get involved with nature. Instead of looking at pictures, take your little one to the home garden and let him touch and see first hand the types of plants that we want to introduce to your little one.
  4. Make a drama class with your little one! Your little one is less interested in sitting down and listening to a fairy tale, but it will be different when you act it out with your little one.
  5. Support your little one’s hobbies. Get him involved in competitions and performing arts which will also hone his confidence.
  6. Take your little one in activities that involves fixing or making something. He will learn to solve problems with the learning method he likes.
  7. Involve your little one in extracurricular activities. Channel the child’s kinesthetic intelligence by choosing activities that rely a lot on physicality such as karate, dancing, futsal, basketball, and so on. This activity can help children socialize with peers.
  8. Introduce the concept of shape with motion. Your little one will find it easier to recognize letters using gestures, as well as the concept of lengths that are practiced with the arm.
  9. Provide a varied study space. Let your little one choose the place and learning style such as sitting on the carpet, sitting at the study table, or studying in the home page, teach that learning is fun and can be done anywhere.
